I love a good story, I believe we all do. I also believe everyone has a great story to tell. The problem is, everyone’s too busy to tell or listen to them.

We live in a world of 140 character information fragments. Whether you’re a corporation, non-profit or individual, you have a story to tell. Over a year ago, I was convinced that social media was the place where my organization needed to be, where I needed to be.

However, I didn’t know where to start. I needed to find my voice on a platform that worked for me. After attempting to meaningfully engage others over Facebook and Twitter, I realized those platforms weren’t a fit for me. Then, a friend introduced me to Instagram. Truth be told, I didn’t see the value in Instagram at first. I didn’t see the value in photos captured on my mobile phone. My early posts consisted of food and of my kids. It’s drastically different now.

Beyond sharing my photos, I began to tell my story, sharing my life journey with the Instagram community. The conversations revolving around those posts have been awesome, involving people from all around the world. I have the privilege of learning about their journeys too. Instagram challenges me to become a better photographer and storyteller. I am compelled to shoot more and think more deeply of my circumstances.

There is power in a good story. Are you telling your story?

Am I? I’m not sure! My IG is pretty much a visual diary, but selective at that. Sometimes the best photos aren’t sought out, but you happen to be in the right place at the right time. You’ve definitely given me something to think about Dan! You’ve always been good at that, in addition to your fine photography.
