Although some of our favourite family trips involved driving thousands of kilometres from home or flying to another continent, adventures don’t have to take you far from home.
From the mainland, a less than two hour ferry ride gets you to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Another 30 drive takes us to one of our favourite getaway places, Parksville BC. With its glorious beach that goes out seemingly for a mile, during low-tide. The beach is a perfect place for the family to build sand castles and “hunt” for tiny crabs hiding under the rocks.
Sunsets at the beach are always a treat with glorious colours and views of the tidal pools at low-tide.
We also checked out nearby Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park. With its well maintained trails and walking paths, it’s an easy walk for families to enjoy the old-growth Douglas-fir forest.
